Crafting is a special ability of a Crafting Table allowing you to combine materials to gain other materials.

How to craft

First, you need some Crafting tables layed next to each other. Try to make the Crafting Table as big as possible. In order to do that, just place several Crafting Tables in any fully connected shape. Then place the blocks that you want to use as the crafting material on the Crafting Table blocks. Finally you have to point at a Crafting Table block and press the C key (default).

I'll give an example for making wood out of Tree Trunks. The crafting recipe is:

Tree Trunk	Wood, 2

Look for Crafting Tables in your inventory.
Place them on the ground, they will be the floor you work on.
Place some Tree Trunks on the Crafting Table.
Look at the Crafting Tables and press C.
A small menu should appear. Click at the recipe you want to use.
